SEOUL, South Korea — October 28, 2025 — Genesis is preparing to enter the ultra-luxury electric SUV segment with the upcoming GV90, a model positioned to challenge European heavyweights like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and BMW iX. The flagship EV was recently caught testing on Korean roads, marking its first public appearance in near-production form.

#A Glimpse of Genesis’ Most Ambitious SUV Yet

Footage released by the automotive YouTube channel ShortsCar reveals a heavily camouflaged but production-ready prototype. Despite the wrap, the vehicle’s signature Genesis crest grille, elegant chrome trim, and new multi-spoke alloy wheels hint at a bold yet sophisticated design direction.

The prototype seen is reportedly a P1 pre-production model, meaning it carries most of the exterior and structural components that will make it to the final production version.

#Built on Hyundai’s Next-Generation EV Platform

Internally codenamed JG1, the GV90 will be the first model built on Hyundai Motor Group’s eM platform—a next-generation dedicated EV architecture boasting an 800-volt electrical system. This platform promises greater efficiency, faster charging speeds, and advanced connectivity.

Industry insiders suggest the GV90 will feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, delivering powerful performance suitable for a vehicle of its class. A battery capacity exceeding 100 kWh is expected, potentially offering a driving range of over 500 km, and some estimates even stretch to 700–800 km per charge.

#From Concept to Production Reality

The GV90’s styling takes cues from the brand’s earlier “Neorun” concept car, though the radical design features—like the coach doors and pillar-less frame—have been toned down for production feasibility. The spotted prototype features conventional doors and a defined B-pillar, confirming this shift.

Genesis appears to be focusing on delivering understated luxury and advanced functionality rather than concept-car flamboyance.

#Interior and Technology

While interior shots remain undisclosed, expectations are high. Industry reports point to second-row captain’s chairs, three-row configurations, air suspension, and rear-wheel steering—all designed to enhance ride comfort and maneuverability for the large-size SUV.

The GV90 will also feature Genesis’ latest connected infotainment system, over-the-air updates, and high-end materials consistent with the brand’s flagship status.

#Launch Timeline and Market Position

The Genesis GV90 is expected to debut in the first half of 2026, with prices starting in the mid-₩100 million range (approx. $75,000–$80,000). Fully loaded versions could top ₩200 million ($145,000+), placing it squarely among premium European competitors.

When launched, the GV90 will not only be Genesis’ largest and most luxurious SUV to date but also a statement of Korea’s ability to compete head-to-head with the world’s best in the luxury EV market.
